Susan O’Rourke is very definite about one thing: "I love-love-love my job.” Why the enthusiasm? "At this stage of my life it’s so much more about the people. I get satisfaction beyond the commission.” Susan, who grins even while talking, grew up in Connecticut, Boston, and out West but skied at Stowe with her family. She has been a Vermont resident for more than 20 years.
As for Stowe she observes, "I like the changes – it's true they have brought more people to the community but I think it’s wonderful that the integrity of the village has remained the same."
She brings to her profession a degree in international and business marketing from Simmons College in Boston.
Her method: gently dispel the image of an "inexpensive little fixer upper on the Mountain Road," then identify her clients' requirements. "I get to the basics of what they want, where they want it. They need an alternative to that darling little Vermont farmhouse," Susan says.
Susan gets maximum satisfaction from guiding first-time homebuyers through the process, which includes being there for them, day or night. "One buyer liked a house during the day but wanted to see what it looked like at 9p.m." She was there, to flip the light switch before they arrived.
Susan likes to work from Pall Spera Company’s Main Street office in Stowe, where vacationers and townspeople stroll by and stop in. "Here in Stowe, we all share the Stowe spirit."
